Instructional Design

Instructional design is the process of incorporating knowledge of how people learn to develop effective instructional content, materials, and approaches that meet the needs of today's busy learners and their desired learning outcomes. The Mercer College Instructional Design service works with clients to produce professionally designed courseware (e.g. facilitator guides, participant manuals/materials and PowerPoint presentations) incorporating the latest adult learning principles and aligned to your business strategy for maximum impact and the transfer of learning into business results. The instructional design team can work with your organization to design learning products from one workshop through to a whole corporate curriculum (integrated learning program).

Scenario 1 - No L&D department?

Not a problem! A small to medium sized company does not have a dedicated learning and development function but has a need to provide internal training to be delivered by the technical experts and management. The Mercer College instructional design team works with the subject matter experts and management to design and develop materials that the company's internal resources are able to deliver. This could include Induction, HR for Non-HR Managers, Ethics and Governance, as well more specific training related to a specific business requirement.

Scenario 2 - Supporting learning through targeted courseware development

A company is about to introduce a new Performance Management system but before this can be launched the managers need to be trained on how to conduct performance reviews and performance conversations. The staff will need to be skilled to engage in performance discussions and how to participate in the performance management system. The Mercer College instructional design team can develop the learning materials for management and staff to assist with the smooth introduction of the new system.
